Personal Care
Personal care is all about you, and includes everything from basic skin care to cosmetics and fragrances

Skin Care
Proper skin care is very important in achieving a beautiful look. Start by cleansing, toning, and
moisturizing your skin. Make sure to use products that are alcohol free!
Skin needs to be well-hydrated
A basic tenet of anti-aging skin care is hydration. Keeping your body well-hydrated is the key to
keeping skin looking young and healthy. Your body is more than 75 percent water and a lack
of water can have an adverse effect on the function of skin cells. When cells operate at their
optimal level, the body sheds dead skin at a faster rate, giving your skin a healthy look. A lack
of water, combined with poor diet, has a diuretic effect on the body, which can cause your skin
to look unhealthy and aged.
Choosing skin care products,
- Use a soap-free cleanser for sensitive skin. When using an anti-acne cleanser, make
sure the amount of salicylic acid is small.
- Avoid products with synthetic perfumes and dyes. Stick with natural skin care products
with less chemical ingredients. Products with aloe vera work well with all skin types.
- Lotions for sensitive skin should contain as many natural ingredients as possible,
thus avoiding any potential reactions to harsh chemicals.
- Watch how your skin reacts to different products. If you have sensitive skin, do a test on
a small patch of skin before using a product on your entire face or body.
- When choosing a cleanser, astringent or other oily skin product, avoid those that are
alcohol-based. The alcohol in the product will dry the skin out.
- In addition to using a cream for dry skin, work on your dry from the inside out. Invest in
Vitamin E, which will help to make you skin balanced and healthy.
Anti Aging Wrinkle Cream
- Anti aging wrinkle cream can contain many different ingredients with varying degrees
of effectiveness. In addition to the presence of alpha and beta hydroxyl, several other
compounds are found in anti aging wrinkle cream.
- Retinol/Vitamin A: This is one of the best ingredients to fight wrinkles. It works best at
prescription strength and smoothes out wrinkles and fine lines. However, it can
severely irritate the skin and should be worn in conjunction with sunscreen.
- Vitamin C Ester: This is an anti-inflammatory antioxidant, which stimulates cells to
produce collagen in the skin. The collagen helps to smooth out lines and wrinkles.
Vitamin C is best for sun-damaged skin that has lost its firmness.
Hair Care
Care of hair and care of the scalp skin are intertwined because hair grows from beneath the
skin. The living parts of hair (hair follicle, hair root, root sheath, and sebaceous gland) are
beneath the skin, while the actual hair shaft which emerges (the cuticle which covers the
cortex and medulla) has no living processes. Damage or changes made to the visible hair
shaft cannot be repaired by a biological process, though much can be done to manage hair
and ensure that the cuticle remains intact.
The sebaceous glands in human skin produce sebum, which is composed primarily of fatty
acids. This oily substance gives hair moisture and shine as it travels naturally down the hair
shaft, and serves as a protective substance preventing the hair from drying out. When sebum
is present in excess, the roots of the hair can appear oily, greasy, generally darker than
normal, and the hair may stick together.
Pure water has a pH of 7. When shampooing to remove the slightly acidic sebum from hair,
the pH on the surface of the scalp is raised. Freshly shampooed hair can feel tangled or
rough, and hair which is left to dry after a shampoo only can be excessively dry and coarse.
use conditioner to smooth hair. Conditioners may employ ingredients of an acidic nature to
balance the hair and scalp pH, plant oils or synthetic ingredients such as plastics to coat the
hair shaft and smooth it out.
Your choice of conditioner depends on your hair type
Your choice of shampoo depends on your scalp type
Choosing the right shampoo and conditioner is essential fior a healthy scalp and beautiful,
healthy hair.
Cosmetics
The first archaeological evidence of cosmetics usage is found in Egypt around 3500 BC.
The use of cosmetics in western civilization began in the Middle Ages. Restricted to use within
the upper classes, it was frowned upon and banned by the Church. By the middle of the 20th
century, cosmetics were in widespread use by women in nearly all industrial societies around
the world.
Although cosmetics have been in use for thousands of years, the absence of regulation of the
manufacture and use of cosmetics has led to negative side effects, deformities, blindness,
and even death through the ages.
Today there is a growing awareness and preference for cosmetics that are without any toxic
ingredients, especially those derived from petroleum, sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), and
parabens
Dry Skin Tips
Use cream based skin rejuvenation products if you have dry skin.
As estrogens decrease with the onset of menopause, a decrease in sebum results, leading to drier skin.
Protect dry chapped lips with emollients such as Vaseline or Aquaphor.
Apply a body moisturizing cream twice daily during the fall and winter to keep your skin hydrated and healthy.
Use a1% OTC hydrocortisone ointment on your lips when they start to crack during the winter If your dry skin continues, visit a dermatologist

UVB and UVA rays UVB rays are the burning rays and are stronger during the summer months. The UVA rays that cause long term damage to the skin are prevalent year round. Look for products which offer protection from both. Never use a product with an SPF less than 15. Try to stay out of direct sun as much as possible

Using Skin Firming Lotion Look for spa quality skin firming lotion to get the maximum effects for your skin. Most firming creams work best when left on overnight. Look for specially-formulated nighttime firming creams to improve skin density, minimize lines and wrinkles and make your skin to look taut and ageless.

Split Ends Spit ends are caused by too much brushing or blow drying. Choose a brush that has a wide base but also has bristles that are spread apart. For blow drying, pick a brush that has holes on the base. This will allow the air from the dryer to flow more smoothly. Do not exceed over 100 strokes when brushing. Setting you hair dryer on cool will also help.
