WELLNESS
According to the entry in Wikipedia "Wellness can be described as a state that combines health and
happiness."
Wellness can be defined as the pursuit of a healthy, balanced lifestyle. Wellness is a balance of social,
emotional, spiritual and physical health.
Wellness is generally thought to mean more than the mere absence of disease; rather it is an optimal
state of health. Wellness is pursued by people interested in recovering from ill health or specific health
conditions as well as by those interested in optimizing their already good state of health.
Wellness programs allow individuals to take increased responsibility for their health behaviors. People
often enroll in a private wellness program in order to improve fitness, stop smoking, or to learn how to
manage their weight.
Many factors contribute to wellness: living in a clean environment, eating the right food (proper nutrition),
getting the proper amount of sleep, and tregularly engaging in some form of physical exercise.

Health and wellness is more than just the absence of disease. It is a goal which can be reached
through a positive attitude towards your own personal health.
Through balanced nutrition, regular exercise, and adequate sleep, we can better take care of our
bodies. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the U.S. Department of Agriculture
(USDA), Health Canada, the Canadian Council of Food and Nutrition all publish Dietary Guidelines to
provide North Americans with healthy parameters to ensure better health to combat and prevent
disease and other health ailments.
Many chronic diseases are preventable through lifestyle choices. Heeding the guidelines and
standards of health and nutrition by implementing them into your daily lifestyles can help better protect
your body, spirit and mind.
